My Work

Posted by Vincent

Work Work

It has been a long time since I worked overtime for my job. I went back to work on Saturday and worked for a total of 14 hrs. Then on Monday and Tuesday, I also worked overtime, clocking 14 hr and 14.5 hrs each.

The feeling is tiring, but my mind was filled with money cashing in. I am not lying. On Tuesday, one of my colleagues wanted to give up around 10.10pm and my inner thought was, “hmm, we should work till 11pm so that I can claim one more hour of OT pay”.

Now my only concern is that I might get off-in-lieu instead of OT pay. That will almost defeat my purpose.

I wonder if there will be OT today.

Weird day

Have you ever thought of a day which you might lose your wallet and everything is lost?

Hence I have always separated the items in my wallet to an external cardholder. I have IC in my wallet, and 11B (Army ID) in my cardholder.

My bank A debit card in my cardholder and bank B debit card in my wallet. This is to ensure that I won’t lose everything if either one went missing. To ensure survivability, I kept small amount of cash in my cardholder for emergency.

Then came the day my prophecy came true. I left my wallet on my office table and went for lunch. Upon ordering of food, I realized my wallet missing. I panicked for a second before I remember I have an emergency card holder, my savior.

Back in the office, I retrieved my wallet and immediately reimburse the cash amount in my cardholder.

After my OT, I took a cab home and wanted to pay the driver a $50 notes. He said he had no change, flaunting multiple $50 notes in front of me (luckily I am not a robber. After searching my wallet, I realized I also do not have enough small notes in my wallet. I asked if he had nets machine, he said “no”. Then came my savior again. With it, I managed to gather $18, just enough to pay for my $17.60 cab fare (which I am going to claim from ah gong, my company).

I was saved twice by my cardholder, my emergency purse… the power of contingency plan. That somehow made me feel great as the mechanism put in place actually works.
